*Why not extend "going green" a little further and learn to pamper yourself naturally as well. Realize that your skin is the largest organ your body has and what you put ON it, also is absorbed by the body so if you are using a product that isn't safe to consume, it isn't safe for your skin either! Here are several recipes that will make you feel pampered and luxurious! And wont break the bank!


Oatmeal Mask
:
1/2 Cup ground oatmeal (not quick cook)
1/2 Cup powdered milk

Combine ingredients and store in a jar.
To use mix 2 tbsp mask with 2 tbsp water. Apply to face and neck let rest for 10 minutes and rinse off with cool water. Follow with a toner.

Peppermint Foot Scrub:
1 Cup sea salt
10 Drops essential oil of peppermint
1/8 Cup vegetable oil

In glass jar, pour salt and oil. Cap and shake jar to combine ingredients.
Store in a jar. Use about 1/8 a cup on feet. Rub gently on skin and rinse with cool water.


Gentle Facial scrub:
2 Tbsp Powdered Milk
1/2 Cup Ground oatmeal
1 Tsp Cornmeal

Mix together ingredients and store in a jar. Use about 1 tbsp mix with just enough water to form a paste. Massage on face and neck, rinse with cool water and follow with a toner.

Astringents and Toners:

Lemon Refresher:
1 Cup Distilled water
1/4 Cup Lemon Juice (fresh, not jarred)
 
Place in Spray bottle and shake well. Store in refrigerator.

Tangerine Toner:
1 Cup Witch hazel
5 Drops essential oil of Tangerine

Mix well in a jar. Apply with a cotton ball after washing face.

Lavender Toner:
1 Cup Witch Hazel
5 Drops essential oil of Lavender

Mix well in jar. Apply to face with cotton ball after cleansing.

Ph Restorer:
1/4 Cup Apple cider vinegar
2 Cups Distilled water
10 Drops essential oil of your choice

Mix well in a spray bottle, spritz on face as needed.


Herbal Astringent:
1 Cup Distilled water
1 Tsp each chamomile, rosemary, peppermint leaves
1/4 Cup witch hazel

Boil water, steep a strong tea from the herbs. Allow to cool and add witch hazel. Store in a jar or spray bottle.



Minty Astringent:
1 Cup witch hazel
2 Tbsp peppermint leaves

Place in a jar and allow to steep at least 3 days. Shake daily. Strain. Apply with a cotton ball.

Chamomile Splash:
1 Cup Distilled water
2 Tbsp Chamomile

Steep a very strong chamomile tea. Allow to cool and store in the refrigerator. Splash on face to refresh and cool skin.


Cucumber Summer Splash:
1 Cup Distilled water
1 Medium cucumber chopped finely

Add cucumber to distilled water, be sure to get as much juice into the jar as well. Place in fridge and allow to steep overnight. Strain. Store in refrigerator splash on face or apply with cotton ball when skin is hot and needs to be refreshed or after sun exposure.


Light Moisturizer:
1/2 Cup Distilled Water
3 Tsp Glycerin
5 Drops Essential oil of Lemon
 
Pour into a bottle and shake well. Apply with a cotton ball.


Toothpaste:
1 Tsp Sea salt
3 Tbsp Baking soda
2 Tsp Glycerin
5 Drops Essential oil of peppermint

Combine all ingredients and store in a small plastic jar. Use twice daily as tooth paste. *Add more or less glycerin to make paste desired consistency.


Natural Deodorant:
1/4 Cup Rubbing alcohol 70%
1 Cup Witch hazel
15 Drop lemon essential oil (or oil of your choice)

Combine all ingredients, store in jar or spritzer bottle. Spray on or apply with cotton ball.



Dry Shampoo:
1/4 Cup Baking soda
1 Cup Corn starch

Store in plastic jar. To use, dip finger tips into powder and rub onto scalp, wait 5 minutes and brush out vigorously. Hair should be less oily and smell fresh.


Scented Sugar Scrub:
1 Cup Sugar
20 Drops essential oil of your choice (I like vanilla, rose, and patchouli)

Place ingredients in a plastic bag and squeeze bag to mix oil and sugar well. Store in a jar and use on body as a softening scrub as needed.
