**I am in transition to converting to all green cleansers, they are so much less expensive than their commercial counterparts and I feel its important to make little steps to help out the earth.** All purpose cleaner: 1 Cup White Distilled Vinegar 1 Cup Plain Water For use on all surfaces, tubs, tiles, sinks, counter tops, stoves ect. Mix together in a spray bottle and use on glass as you would Windex. I like to use recycled newspapers instead of paper towels. They also seem to create a better, less streaky shine! * But a word of caution, you will need to wash a bit of ink off your hands after. General abrasive cleaner: *This is not very abrasive, it cleans well, but you don't have to worry about it scratching your surfaces. 1.5 Cups of baking soda 1/2 Cup of salt 1/2 Lemon, lime, or orange Combine baking soda and salt in an old Parmesan cheese shaker. Sprinkle onto surface to be cleaned. Use cut side of the citrus fruit to scrub the sink, counter, or tub. Not only will your stainless steel sinks shine, but they will smell wonderful as well. **Once you are finished, if you have a garbage disposal in your sink place the fruit into it and grind it up to clean the inside of the disposal. Furniture polish/ Wood floor polish: 1 Cup Olive Oil 1/2 Cup Lemon Juice Mix together and use as you would any other polisher on wood furniture and floors. Air Freshener: Cinnamon Cloves 1 Quart Water Simmer cinnamon and cloves in water to freshen the rooms. Drain Cleaner: 1 Cup Baking Soda 1 Cup Vinegar Pour baking soda in the drain, then add vinegar. Let sit 10 minutes and flush with boiling hot water. Toilet Bowl Cleaner: 1 Cup Baking Soda 1 Cup Vinegar Flush toilet, and sprinkle baking soda, add vinegar and allow to sit for 20 minutes, scrub with a toilet brush. Septic System Cleaner: 1 package yeast 1/4 cup sugar Combine ingredients with warm water and allow to sit 2 minutes. They are a huge waste to our natural resources, and our financial resources. Perhaps instead you might consider using cloth dish towels to dry hands and cloth napkins to wipe faces, and drain the oils from foods. Its so much more economical to utilize reusable items. Instead of plastic wrap or foil, I use plates to cover bowls of stew in the fridge. Look around your home and get creative... what can you re-purpose?
